About

International Market was originally opened in 1975 by Patti Myint and operated for decades as a neighborhood restaurant. In 2022, the restaurant was relaunched by her children, Anna and Arnold Myint, working alongside two cooks from the original kitchen, reconnecting the space to its earlier history while expanding its scope. During lunch, the restaurant maintains elements of the original format, including steam-table offerings featuring fried rice and curry dishes. The daytime menu also includes established Thai classics such as pad see ew and drunken noodles, providing continuity with the restaurant’s long-running identity. In the evening, International Market shifts into a full-service restaurant with an expanded menu and a dedicated cocktail and wine program. Dinner offerings include a range of Thai dishes that combine traditional foundations with newer creations from Chef Arnold, such as fried trout laab, Thai-style fried chicken made with locally sourced ingredients, and dessert items like coconut custard banana brûlée pudding. The space supports both casual daytime meals and more structured evening dining, with service and pacing adapting to the shift between lunch and dinner. International Market functions as both a continuation of a longstanding Nashville institution and a modern Thai restaurant shaped by multiple generations.

International Market is one of Nashville's most historically important restaurants — a Thai restaurant that has been serving the city's Southeast Asian community and a loyal cross-cultural following for decades, operating with a consistency and integrity that has kept it relevant through enormous changes in the city around it. This is a place with real roots and real food.

The cooking is Thai home cooking at its most honest. The curries are built with proper paste and patience, developing the depth and complexity that shortcuts cannot replicate. The noodle dishes are properly seasoned and correctly cooked. The heat is not calibrated to the least adventurous person at the table — if you ask for spicy, you get spicy, which is a form of respect that too many Thai restaurants in Nashville don't offer. The daily specials reflect what the kitchen is excited about and are consistently worth ordering.

The setting is deliberately unpretentious — a cafeteria-style service model, simple tables, the functional beauty of a restaurant where the food is the entire point. The prices are honest in a way that makes International Market accessible to the community it has always served, which is both a practical and an ethical choice that the restaurant has maintained while everything around it has changed.

Damn Good. International Market is Nashville's original Thai food destination and it remains one of the best. The city's Thai food conversation starts here, and returning to it after trying newer operations reminds you what the baseline of authentic, well-cooked Thai cuisine actually looks like.
